The Impact of Psychology Staff

We will be highlighting and celebrating the very important work of our Psychology staff. They play a key role in promoting the overall well-being of students, families and schools.

Understanding and Supporting Students

Through careful assessments and compassionate communication, Psychology staff help to:

  • Empower success
  • Foster understanding

One WRDSB student commented that the Psychology staff made them feel special and that they looked forward to their conversations. Other students express that they’d like to continue meeting with the school Psychology staff long after their work together is complete. The Psychology staff is often approached in the hallways with waves and smiles.

Students express gratitude for feeling truly understood. One said, “Your report was spot-on. Thank you for helping me. I feel hopeful for the future.”

These stories highlight the vital role Psychology staff play in supporting:

  • Growth
  • Confidence
  • Hope

Student Support

At the start of the school year, a young student was having separation anxiety. After months of tearful, difficult goodbyes, the Psychology staff collaborated with the school team to develop creative strategies. This included a “goodbye ritual,” pairing the student with a friend for morning activities. They also created a storybook that described strategies to help them manage their anxious feelings.

With practice and support, the student’s confidence blossomed, and they soon began running into class with excitement. Thanks to the staff member’s expertise, the student transitioned smoothly into their new environment. This paved the way for a positive and successful school year.

Lunch and Learn Sessions for WRDSB Families and Caregivers

Families and caregivers are invited to join our Lunch and Learn sessions, held over the lunch hour on Wednesdays. Those who attend will learn useful tips and information to assist them in supporting their child.

Psychology Department Videos

Students, families, caregivers and staff are invited to check out the Psychology department YouTube channel. They have created a series of short videos on important mental health topics. These videos were developed with students, staff, and caregivers in mind.
