On May 28, the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) acknowledges Menstrual Health Day to promote education around periods, the fight for menstrual equity, and advocacy for policy change. Commonly known as Menstrual Hygiene Day, we are using the word ‘health’ not ‘hygiene’, in alliance with our community partners, in an effort to de-stigmatize periods.

The WRDSB has been working to address period poverty in our school board since 2019. Providing free products to students is one step toward menstrual equity, which will allow students to attend school physically and emotionally, without stigma or barriers.
